How do GECOs work?

- A GECO offsets one ton of greenhouse emissions

- A GECO is equal to one ton of greenhouse abatement

- GECOs are underwritten by Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

- RECs are a legal greenhouse currency under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000

- One REC represents 1 Megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable energy produced in Victoria

- 1 MWh of renewable energy in Victoria is equal to 1.444 tons CO2e greenhouse abatement

- 1 ton of greenhouse abatement is underwritten by 0.69 RECs

- The RECs that underwrite your GECOs are held in the REC pool

-Accompanying the GECO is an agreement stating that SEA O2 will not on-sell the RECS that underwrite your GECOs or allow them back into circulation
